H A P P Y  N E W  B E E R!

Okay, it seems like a long time since we were last in contact, (shouts of 'Not long enough' from the back). This BCN is so late, that the 10 month December 2003 countdown will start next week.

We had a great December trade, and would like to thank all those who ordered early and often. Our apologies to anybody who was disappointed when we became booked out so quickly.

So, January 2003 is nearly over. Was it any good? Not really, except for The Heineken Cup. Did you manage to pay off your CC bills, re-grow your liver, and start going to the gym? No, but who did?

Hang on in there for the brighter evenings, the six-nations, and that first BBQ in late April. Thanks for your continued support of this company by word of mouth and online. We very much enjoy your feedback. If you have any ideas on how we can further popularise our service, or would like to email us. Hit Reply.

In the meantime, stay tuned for more beer related broadcasts. Oh, and what's all this about a National House Party Day on February 28th, all will be revealed in our next edition.

The Meteor Irish Music Awards 2003 take place at the start of March. Most of the Irish acts are from the Louis Walsh stable. Only one non-Louis pop act receives significant nominations. Luke Thomas, Irelands only chart topping RnB artist, is Nominated for 3 categories, best dance, best pop and best new act.

Luke is a 19 year old R'n'B singer, who raps, writes, and produces most of his own material. He has has two Top-10 hits so far. We think he should be supported. Besides, I am sure Louis must be getting bored winning by now...

To vote for Luke text the following "Vote 6 Luke Thomas" to this Number 53121 (60 cent per vote).

Voting details are at http://www.lukethomas.ie/vote.htm

Ronan Lynch, Publican of the Swan bar on Aungier put together a memorable night of entertainment and fundraising in the run up to xmas. Three father christmas style beards were lost forever in aid of the games. Our heroes Brian Drum, Robbie Gallagher, and John O'Grady relinquished sturdy beards, cultivated over two decades.

A generous and noisy crowd of locals, students and heavy-hitters egged the 3 lads on. Donations came in from sponsor lines sold, raffle tickets, and a change bucket. The total figure for one nights fun was over 5,000 euro. Prizes for the raffle were donated by Swan bar, BDS Vending, Brewcrew.ie, Elliot's Cash and carry, and Vibe Entertainment.

Testimonials from satisfied Brewcrew users.

"BrewCrew run a great service. Delivered to the door and picked up again, no fuss. Of course it's all about the product and the beer is superb, leaves the the mass volume producers for dead and there's nothing like a keg in the kitchen to break the ice at a party."

Rory Duggan, Naas.

"Great service & beer. Beer went down a treat & lots of referrals should follow from guests. We will use the service again."

David Ellis, Whitehall.

"It was perfect - thanks. We'll definitely be phoning you again for our next party and recommending you to friends!"

Ann Moran, Glasnevin.

BEER BLOCKADE BY MEXICAN WOMEN

Women in the Mexican village of Teenek have cut off the beer supply to the mountain town by chasing away delivery trucks. The town's men have been described as "sad." The women greet the trucks by shouting "Get out! Get out!", and have left the town basically dry except for special ceremonies.

The women told a local newspaper they are fed up with their men stumbling home drunk and even falling over in corn fields. "A lot of men are not happy with this. They seem sad. But oh, well." said Marcelina Martinez. "At least now they spend time with their families. They didn't want to listen to us so we had to get angry."

Teenek women traditionally don't drink and rarely hold positions of power. They decided to take matters into their own hands, refusing to allow any more alcohol to be sold in their community. Liquor in the village is now only allowed for traditional ceremonies. Another 12 villages in the area say they are seriously considering adopting the same rules.

DRUNKEN ELEPHANT HORSEPLAY ENDS IN DEATHS (AGAIN)

At least six persons were crushed to death by wild elephants that went amok after getting drunk on rice beer near Guwahati, India. A forest official said the herd went on the rampage Monday in Tinsukia district. "They smashed huts and plundered granaries and broke open casks to drink rice beer. The herd then went berserk killing six persons," according to a Reuters report.

Wild elephants have been targeting areas where people brew large volumes of rice beer. "We have come across devastating drunken bouts by herds that have developed a liking for country liquor," Kushal Sharma, a noted elephant expert, said.

In the last two years, elephants have killed at least 150 people. Villagers, in turn, have killed up to 200 of the animals.

BEWARE OF DANCING BEER DRINKERS

The Westminster City Council in London has pub owners making a strange plea to customers: Please don't dance or even look like you are thinking about dancing. Wolverhampton & Dudley Breweries has been fined £5,000 and ordered to pay £1,600 costs in addition to its own legal fees after Westminster Council found people "moving rhythmically" to music in two of its Pitcher and Piano pubs.

The City Council has told pubs that if they don't have public entertainment licenses (PEL) they could be prosecuted if they allow customers to move in a way that could constitute dancing. "We have signs up everywhere, managers instruct customers, we turn the music down, rearrange the furniture and so on," said Derek Andrews of Wolverhampton and Dudley. "Unfortunately we can't always stop people acting spontaneously."

DRINK A BEER, BUY A DIAMOND RING (BAD IDEA)

A Wisconsin mall has found a way to combine holiday shopping, beer and the Green Bay Packers. Did we mention that the beer is free? The first Men's Shopping Night was scheduled for Dec. 17 at the Fox River Mall in Appleton, Wis. Men were invited to the Fox River Brewing Co. in the mall for free beer samples and appetizers. Models were to show off jewelry from mall shops and hand out catalogs while the guys register. An hour later, everyone heads over to the jewelry stores. Green Bay Packers running back Najeh Davenport is scheduled to sign autographs at the stores while the men shop. We wonder how many terrible mistakes were made that night!
