"Check
out this site, it's for a bar / restaurant called Wankers Corner
in Oregon in the US. They even have their own microbrewery. I've
never been but my brother in law has and the favourite call around
the office he visits over there at lunchtime is "Are you going
for a wanker?"
The phrase we
are familiar with doesn't have the same meaning to our fellow Americans
apparently, but the best joke is that the place is apparently owned
by an English guy who must get a great laugh at the whole thing."
We checked out
the site, and it is sounds like a pretty good spot. They even donate
the weekend cover charge to the Food Shelter. What a good idea.
Although, not quite sure how the "Wankers Own Outback Ale"
would sell in Ireland.

Best joke in
ages - classic
A man comes
home from work, sits down in his favorite chair, turns on the TV,
and says to his wife, "Quick, bring me a beer before it starts."
She looked a little puzzled, but brings him a beer. When he finishes
it, he says, "Quick, bring me another beer. It's gonna start."
This time she looks a little angry, but brings him a beer. When
it was gone, he says, "Quick, another beer before it starts."
"That's it!" She blows her top! "You b*stard! You
waltz in here, flop your fat ass down, don't even say hello to me
and then expect me to run around like your slave. Don't you realize
that I cook and clean and wash and iron all day long?" The
man sighed. "It's started..."

1. Irish
Finish Respectable Second in Per Capita Consumption.
Czech beer drinkers
continue to lead the world. While China and the United States are
the largest overall producers because they are the largest countries,
beer lovers in the Czech Republic and Ireland run well ahead in
per capita consumption. Czech drinkers downed an average of 162
liters each in 2003. "This means that the average citizen of
our country drinks daily a minimum half-liter mug of this utmostly
popular Czech drink," said Jan Vesely, Chairman of the Czech
Union of Breweries. Irish drinkers averaged 146, with Germany and
Austria following at 123 and 112 liters respectively.

Trumps for These Drunks
Wolverhampton,
located in the south of England, recently purchased pictures of
convicted drunkards from nearly 100 years ago to display at the
Council’s City Archives and Local Studies Unit. We can't really
explain how this might be related to beer appreciation, but they
sure are fun to look at.
The six cards
were issued to the New Inn on Dudley Road, Brierley Hill (now the
Dog and Lamp Post) in about 1905 by Wolverhampton Police. "I
am delighted these fascinating documents have been added to our
collections where they are available for anyone to come and see
them", said Peter Evans, Wolverhampton City Archivist. "They
give us a glimpse as to how the authorities sought to tackle drunken
behavior 100 years ago."
The cards show
four women and two men, and give their names, addresses, ages and
occupations together with details of their appearance and any distinguishing
marks ("first finger left hand missing").
Under the Licensing
Act of 1902 the local police issued cards like these to ensure those
convicted of being habitual drunkards were not served in local pubs.
If the landlord of the pub was convicted of supplying alcohol to
the person on the card he or she could be fined £10. http://www.24hourmuseum.org.uk/nwh_gfx_en/ART19090.html
3. Re-cycle,
Re-use...Check out the photos. Industrious is the word.
More than 100
police officers converged on a former Molson brewery site last month,
exposing what they say is the largest mari7uana growing operation
in Ontario history. Nine men were arrested in connection with the
operation, and 30,000 mari7uana plants were found in the bust. Here's
a police photo showing a former brewing tank full of mari7uana plants:
